According to an 86 years old gentleman who lives in the village, the old inhabitants of the houses here were rich men. Because this was a place where the water was close and easy to get he said. In fact the Kepez type of gray stones used in some of the relatively newer sections such as some of the arched rooms is a proof that the inhabitants were wealthy. Kepez Stone is a solid gray stone found in the hills of Kavak village about 15 kms from Uchisar. The stone is actually under protection in our days and mining is prohibited. This rock is known to be a solid and waterproof stone used in fountain basins, rain drainage channels called cortens, staircases or fireplaces. We used this rarely available stone in the main staircase and the fountain in the courtyard. We have transformed the old stable in the basement floor of the complex into a rock bedroom. All carved out from the rock. Because we would like our guests feel the ancient ambience of the old Cappadocians.
