Cappadocia is a Unesco world heritage site with fantastic rock formations, rock carved churches, troglodyte settlements and underground cities. Tolun's Cappadocia Lodge is a small boutique hotel located on the heights of Cappadocia region. My name is Tolun Çerkeş. I am an archaeologist and a multilingual tour guide who loves mountains. Fascinated by the beauty of this area, I bought a complex of ancient houses and caves by the so called Pigeons valley in 2003. Having the highest position up above the region, the houses offered a unique view over the valleys and the Argeus mountain in the horizon. After the approval of my restoration project by the Ministry of Culture, I started careful restoration works in the complex. My aim was to create a cave hotel complying with the natural and historical texture of the region. Having this objective in mind I employed specialized architects, masters and workers. Transforming those caves into charming rooms was quite a pleasant work. During the restorations, we found a gallery behind an old wall. The gallery was connected to a network of subterranean tunnels in the underground. This gallery is now waiting to be explored and stylish cave rooms are ready to host my guests. Each room has a character of it's own. The inhabitants of Cappadocia like cave rooms. Because cave rooms are cool in summer and warm in winter. Being in the bosom of the nature by the orchards of peasants, on the high slopes of Pigeons Valley, my small hotel offers an extraordinary view of the rock formations and valleys. The rock castle called Tiraz Kale, in the giant rock formation next to the hotel and the huge rock castle at the back side of it, were possibly inhabited by Hittites and Early Christians who needed such places for defense. Located at an altitude of 1250 meters, the spot usually receives  a nice breeze and it is a great place to breathe clean mountain air.
